About

Founded by Tim Marriott, SMOKESCREEN PRODUCTIONS aims to tell stories in vibrant style, supporting the work of charities with dynamic theatrical performance.

Smokescreen was awarded grants via the Chancellor's LIBOR fund to create 'Shell Shock', an adaptation of Neil Blower Watkin's biographical novel. Supporting charities such as Help For Heroes, Combat Stress, and The Armed Forces Network, the pla toured to festivals, theatres and colleges in the UK, New York, Australia and New Zealand as well as 'behind the wire' in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

'Mengele', inspired by the Holocaust themed novel 'Right to Live' by Philip Wharam, sold out at both Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe where 'Shell Shock' won a Best Solo Show award. 'Shell Shock' went on to complete a long tour of Australia from Brisbane to Melbourne to Sydney for the Invictus Games. 'Mengele' was again a Sell-Out Show at Edinburgh in 2019 and won the Lustrum Award. Both 'Shell Shock' and 'Mengele' were at Adelaide Fringe in 2020, where touring was halted.

Following the creation of new works, Sherlock-ian solo 'Watson: The Final Problem’, corporate comedy 'Appraisal' and cricket themed 'Jack's Ashes', Tim Marriott won two Best Theatre Awards at Adelaide, as well a Best Performance Award at Edinburgh Festival 22.  'Appraisal' won both Best Actor for Tim and Best Actress for Angela Bull in '23.

'Watson', co-written and directed by Bert Coules, sold out shows at EdFringe '21, '22 & '23.  ‘Appraisal’ and ‘Watson’ were both selected for the 2024 Brits Off Broadway season in New York, selling out shows over a six week season. 'Jack's Ashes' toured to Australia in '22 and '23, and was performed at major cricket grounds, schools and theatres across the country.

A new transatlantic comedy, 'A Special Relationship', written by Tim Marriott and Jeff Stolzer, will premiere at the Tabard Theatre in London March '25 and is scheduled to be in New York May-June '25.

Smokescreen Productions is affiliated to the film production company Smokescreen Visuals. 'Shell Shock' is in post-production as a vlog-style film project created for the Armed Forces Network. 'Revelation', a feature-length drama, based on a novel by Tim Marriott, is currently in development. The book will be published later this year. The opening chapter is available here.
